Ashden Green Energy Awards: international entries needed by 21 October 2008
Are you part of a local sustainable energy project that’s inspirational, innovative, and worthy of international recognition? Do you know of one?
The Ashden Awards for Sustainable Energy are seeking inspirational and innovative local sustainable energy projects based in countries with developing economies. Entry is free, and up to seven winners will receive £20,000 each in prize money for project development, with one Energy Champion awarded £40,000. The Awards will be presented at a VIP ceremony in London in June 2009. Read More>

Annual Global Development Awards and Medals Competition 2008 - Deadline for submission: August 20, 2008

Apply now for the 2008 Global Development Awards and Medals Competition for the Most Innovative Development Project, which carries prizes in cash and travel. Submissions are accepted for an ongoing development project implemented in a developing or transition country. WISIONS is pleased to launch the latest call for SEPS applications!

Now in its fifth year, WISIONS, a Wuppertal Institute initiative that is funded and supported by the Swiss-based foundation ProEvolution, has launched its annual call for applications for Sustainable Energy Project Support (SEPS).
WISIONS invites the submission of proposals from now until 18 August 2008. The total grant fund for financial support of SEPS projects in this, the 5th round (2008), is €500,000 (across all projects). Partial funding of projects is possible. Read more>

Energy Globe Award : Reward for GERES Cambodia Program

Domestic cooking stoves for sale
Brussels, 26 May 2008: The sustainable development program implemented in Cambodia by the French NGO GERES was presented with the “National Energy Globe Award. GERES has been working in Cambodia since 1997 when it launched a series of projects aiming to reduce the excessive use of firewood (which comprises 80% of the national energy balance), mainly through the conception and distribution of domestic cooking stoves. In 2007, 180.000 households were able to improve their living standard through these efficient stoves which are manufactured by local craftspeople and commercialised in the market. Read More>

May 2008 - The ENERGIA International Network on Gender and Sustainable Energy is pleased to announce a call for proposals for Gender in Energy Projects / Markets in Asia and Africa. ENERGIA invites its National Focal Points (NFPs), their partner institutions and other stakeholders to submit project proposals to mainstream gender approaches into existing energy projects. Prequalification launched for installation of Solar Home Systems in Bolivia (DEADLINE: May 20, 2008)

As part of its National Program “Electricity for a Life with Dignity” (Electricidad para Vivir con Dignidad), on April 6, 2008 the Bolivian Government launched the prequalification process for firms and consortia interested in bidding for the installation and after-sales services of 7,000 + Solar Home Systems in seven areas of Bolivia. The international Energy Globe Award distinguishes projects that sustainably use our resources such as water, earth, energy and air or use renewable energy forms. It is awarded in the categories earth, fire, water, air and youth, with €10,000 first prizes available in each category.

A pre-conference workshop on “ENERGY AND POVERTY: CLEAN COOKING FUELS” will be held in conjunction with the 31st IAEE International Conference in Istanbul on 16-17 June 2008. The key objective of the workshop is to increase understanding of barriers to the transition to cleaner, more efficient fuels and technologies for meeting the cooking needs of the poor and measures for enhancing access, affordability and supply.
