GVEP International discusses potential support for sustainable energy access programmes at the Asia Clean Energy Forum

June 2008 - Hari Natarajan, GVEP International’s South Asia Regional Manager presented its roadmap for interventions in the Asia-Pacific region during a pre-conference one day session on scaling up Energy Access as a part of the Asia Clean Energy Forum at ADB in Manila. Proposed interventions at the regional level included the possible establishment of an energy access fund (similar in principle to the fund under development for East Africa), a capacity building facility and a Monitoring & Evaluation facility. This will be supplemented by global interventions such as strategic partnerships with other agencies, for example the Ashden Awards Trust and REEEP. The aim is to address technology innovation and policy issues, as well as develop an information base for knowledge sharing and collaboration. As in the past, GVEP International also provided the grass-root level organization perspective at this event by supporting a few of its partners to attend.

Partner feedback

"Attending the ACEF gave me an opportunity to exchange ideas and get my doubts clarified with practioners in energy sector from other parts of the world. This has provided a small beginning for a collective effort with other people/organisations working in renewable energy sector from other countries of Asia in accessing financial resources for our clean energy initiatives. I would like to thank GVEP International for having given me this opportunity to attend this event." Mr. Vidya Sagar, SKG Sangha, an Ashden Award winner in 2007, who has implemented biogas projects across India.
