M&EED meeting in Paris, 19-21 April 2006

A Monitoring and Evaluation of Energy for Development, International Working Group was organised in Paris in association with the M&EED Working Group meeting, to provide assistance to RIESO in the evaluation of six projects in Africa, and to GTZ and Senternovem with their Household Energy project. The group decided that it would be useful to map inputs, outputs, outcomes and indicators in a table, which would form a basis of a reference tool to provide project designers with a “menu” of choices from which to select the most relevant for their specific needs. Assistance was also offered to RIESO in the planning of their Zambian workshop.
All agreed that the group is beginning to fill an important advisory role, however it is essential that working group members communicate the activities of the working group, and make an effort to acknowledge the contribution of experts within the group to wider audiences. The Monitoring and Evaluation for Energy and Development International Working Group (M&EED) welcomed new members from UNEP RISOE and the Energy Research Centre of the Netherlands. The work of the Development and Energy Africa (DEA) project was presented, identifying areas of synergy with M&EED. M&E modules, which will be ready in April, will be tested in some pilots of the DEA project. Funding is being sought to develop the M&E toolbox and a village-level guide.
