Networks collaborating to build skills in developing countries

Img 1Long term commitment and major funding sources are required to promote access to energy services in developing countries. One of the barriers to mobilising funding is the lack of national expertise to implement adapted programmes for scaling up. Networks like GVEP and RIAED contribute in various ways to strengthen and develop new national expertise. They also make it possible to improve project design, in particular, through their Energy Gateways on the Internet which:

  • keep experts in developing countries informed about the latest energy activities: wherever they live and work, these experts can use on line exactly the same information as others;
  • allow experts to share knowledge, documents and tools already available in their working language.

This sharing of resources helps each expert to improve his or her project design by learning from the lessons learnt from other projects. It prevents repeating the same studies, and carrying out the same research and testing in each country from scratch … which is a waste of time and money. It speeds up the field-testing stage, being based on wider experiments carried out in the regional area, and also in different geographical and linguistic spaces.In the same way that you have a lot to gain and share within a network, you have a lot to gain and share between distinct international networks. GVEP and RIAED understand the importance of sharing and building expertise and are working closely together to strengthen their collaboration to the benefit of the highest number of experts.
