GVEP International signs a collaboration agreement with the Ashden Awards for Sustainable Energy
Sarah Butler-Sloss(Ashden Awards for Sustainable Energy) - Sarah Adams (GVEP International)
In January 2008, GVEP International and the Ashden Awards for Sustainable Energy launched a new programme of collaboration with the aim of increasing outreach to GVEP International partners and Ashden Award winners.
The Ashden Awards for Sustainable Energy, established in 2001, are a leading global scheme offering annual awards to organisations across the developing world who demonstrate exceptional local sustainable energy access solutions.
Ashden Award winners include projects using solar, wind, hydro, biomass, biogas, and other energy efficient technologies. The Ashden Awards, like GVEP International, are dedicated to tackling energy access, poverty, and climate change.
Winners are given a cash prize to expand their work and spread the word about what they are doing. The Ashden Awards conduct an extensive PR campaign to raise awareness of local sustainable energy solutions both in the winners’ home countries and further afield. Their website is a valuable information resource with detailed case-studies, photos and films about their winners.
The Ashden Awards have recognised a need to offer their winners more ongoing, practical support. The agreement with GVEP International will include collaboration on regional activities, participation at events, and information and knowledge sharing. GVEP International will offer follow up technical assistance to the 2007 Ashden Awards winners, to ensure the long-term sustainability of their projects.
