What we do
GVEP (Global Village Energy Partnership) has been working since its creation in 2002 on supporting and helping developing countries to set up energy action plans and assisting with the associated studies and demand analyses. Considerable progress has been made and a number of energy action plans have been launched and links made with the national poverty reduction strategy papers.
In 2006, GVEP International decided to add a new dimension to its activities by providing financial support, capacity building and technical assistance to energy SMEs in developing countries. From 2008 onwards, using funding from the Russian Government, GVEP International will set up a Regional Energy Access Fund in East Africa to build local energy supply chains and contribute to economic development. These activities will then be linked into the policy level work that GVEP International has traditionally carried out. GVEP International also intends to work with various public and private sector institutions to support energy SMEs in South Asia, particularly India. Similarly, the Partnership is working in seven countries in Latin America which have indicated support for and commitment to Partnership priorities. These countries are Bolivia, Brazil, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico and Peru.
