Summary

The second meeting of the ECOWAS Regional Multisectoral Committee(RMC) took place in Dakar at the end of March. ECOWAS is now at a major crossroads in terms of energy access. Despite existing actions within countries to increase access to energy services, progress has been limited. By launching a wide reaching initiative, the region may be able to lift some of the constraints restraining energy growth.

Details

The meeting aimed at enabling the Member States represented on the RMC, to validate a joint approach based on analyses of energy service needs and efforts to reach the MDGs. It included the presentation of strategies for increasing access to energy services to reduce poverty, and proposals for a five-step method of developing national strategies for access to energy services.
