Solar Cooker International, Kenya - Sunny Solutions
Display of Solar cooked food
The goal of ‘Introducing the CooKit’ to two new areas of Kenya has been successfully carried out. First off, women were provided with training in the handling and use of cookers, which led to a considerable increase in the number of sales. Targeting women, this activity enabled increased access to, and enhanced knowledge and control of the Solar Cooker technology. It has been pointed out, however, that it is not enough simply to give or to sell the CooKits. There also needs to be post-sales follow up and service support, so as to ensure the user is comfortable and confident in using the CooKit.
Regarding the project, Solar Cooker’s conclusions are as follows: “It is true that solar cooking is complementary to other conventional ways to cook. We openly and honestly teach that we are increasing the cook’s options, and enabling them to use a free resource rather than being enslaved by smoky fires or buying fuel, when the sun shines every day. So the solar cooker has been adopted as one of the cooking stoves, rather than THE stove” .
