Name of Organization:
The GAIA-Movement Trust Living Earth Green World Action

Name of Project:
Towards Biofuel Self Supply - Jatropha Oil in Dual Fuel Systems for Stationary Engines in Rural Communities

Region, Country
Chibombo District, Zambia

Project Initiation Date October 1, 2006
Activity Completion Date August 31, 2007

The GVEP project in Zambia has to a large extent achieved its objectives. Smallholder production of jatropha has been started. About 600 farmers have been trained in jatropha production. They have land available and are interested in producing. A market for jatropha oil in dual fuel systems for stationary engines has been developed.

A very successful conference was held at the Children’s Town in Malambanyama on September 5, 2007, to disseminate the preliminary findings and to explain the dual fuel system to a wider public. Please click here for the report, which also lists the many organizations and entities present, such as local governmental authorities, the Biofuel Association of Zambia, private enterprises, schools, owners of grinding mills, ILO, etc.
