Practical Action
The presence of Practical Action Eastern Africa in the region dates back to the mid 1980s. An office was opened in Nairobi in 1992.
The organisation works towards fulfilling its mission in Eastern Africa – Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, and will later cover Ethiopia, Eritrea, Somalia, Rwanda and Burundi – by increasing the choices of technologies and approaches accessible to the marginalized groups through establishing a broad range of highly regarded project work.
Practical Action East Africa has five technology strategies:
• agriculture and pastoralism
• small-scale manufacturing
• transport
• urban livelihoods and shelter
• energy
In addition, there is also a Fundraising and Marketing Unit, which incorporates the following: fundraising, public relations, communications, resource centre, policy and advocacy, quality assurance and information technology.
It aims to strengthen Practical Action-EA's presence as a serious and effective institution concerned with poverty alleviation through the use of appropriate technologies and processes within the East Africa region. Read More>
