Energy platforms - Guatemala and Peru

In 2006, Fundacion Solar in Guatemala developed a GVEP International Energy Action Plan for the area called Franja Transfersal del Norte. Peru has now also established a GVEP International Coordination Platform with the support of the Interamerican Development Bank which will be putting in place a Project Team during 2008 to implement the recommendations of the Platform in the shape of an energy strategy for renewables and biofuels. GVEP International is also supporting four regional workshops to provide feedback into the national strategy.

GVEP International will be co-funding projects identified by the Platform together with the IDB.

Interest in the Platform model has now been expressed by a number of other Latin American countries, such as Honduras where GVEP International will be holding a meeting in June 2008 to discuss this possibility further with stakeholders.
