The Ministry of Mines and Energy has incorporated the GVEP/Brazil Action Plan in the Luz para Todos Program and it is now integrating the so called Integrated Actions part of the Program.
The Integrated Actions is delivering to the communities connected to electricity services the productive use of energy as means to promote social development and poverty alleviation.
Ten state coordination of Luz para Todos Program are applying the Action Plan proposed by GVEP as their strategy for poverty alleviation 152 people, of all Brazilian states, were trained according to the strategy proposed in the Action Plan.

The methodologies, guidelines, manuals and other tools proposed in the Action Plan were developed, tested and implemented in more than 50 communities of 22 different municipalities, reaching over 1,600 people.

This document serves as the basis for all the Luz para Todos activities and contains very specific information on the various objectives, methodologies and strategies at the local, state and federal levels, steps for integrating with political offices, coordinated action activities, and monitoring and evaluation. Brazil Action Plan Obtains Initial Funding

30 April, 2005 - Brazil Ministry of Mines and Energy/United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)/US Agency for International Development (USAID)The Brazilian Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME/GOB) and the UNDP Country Office in Brazil, with funding from USAID/Brazil, and in close cooperation with GVEP have developed a multi-sector, multi-stakeholder effort to accelerate energy access to those unserved, in a manner that enhances economic and social development and reduces poverty. GVEP Seminar: Financing Rural Energy for Productive Use

6-7 April, 2005; Brasilia, Brazilm. The seminar brought together over 50 participants with the objective of increasing financing for rural energy linked to productive uses and income generation in the country. Seminar sessions focused on: increasing awareness of GVEP among the participants, enhancing their understanding of energy options for productive uses and income generation in the country, exploring the economics and opportunities of rural energy projects, identifying financing options for rural energy, reviewing experiences of local players, etc. Attendees included financial institutions, utilities, rural and credit cooperatives, NGOs, associations and others. As a follow up to this workshop, GVEP partners, including UNDP Brazil, Caixa Economica (one of the largest development banks in Brazil), Gento do Brasil, and the Technical Secretariat are designing a risk mitigation facility to increase lending for rural energy, productive use projects in the country.

Workshop “Financial Institutions and the Microcredit in Brazil”

01 March, 2005 -Fortaleza - CE, February 17 and 18, 2005 Over 30 representatives from the banking sector, public and private sector and NGOs came together to explore ways to enhance the productive use of rural and renewable energy in Brazil and to stimulate access to financing. The Event was a result of the partnership between Associação Gente do Brasil, Banco do Nordeste, Banco do Brasil (BB), Caixa Econômica Federal (CAIXA), Government of Ceará State and the United Nations Development Program (UNOPS/UNDP). Following this event, activities will focus on development of project opportunities, strengthening of entrepreneur project portfolios and linking businesses with financing access via local programs and financing sources.
