Dominican Republic
Core support is being provided under UNDP funding to consolidate the GVEP group which represents a forum where key non-energy stakeholders in the areas of health, education, agriculture etc. meet to resolve the linkages between energy and poverty reduction in rural areas, coordinate actions in order to facilitate the development and implementation of service delivery models, and catalyse the scale up of investments in rural energy development projects and programmes.
One of the main objectives is to strengthen the GVEP group by incorporating private and NGO sectors. Support will also be given to the production of a national GVEP plan, the analysis of previous and ongoing experiences with communal energy, the operation of existing energy fund, and development of adoption of methodologies for the monitoring and evaluation of energy projects. Mail results will be passed to the National Energy Commission and used to expand and implement the national plan.
