Honduras

In 2004, the Secretary of Natural Resources and Environment (SERNA) developed a Nationally Integrated Policy Document for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency to promote economic development and poverty reduction in Honduras. This document was officially adopted in June 2005.

The GVEP action planning workshop took place on September 21-22, 2005 in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. The inputs from the workshop will be integrated to elaborate a draft GVEP action plan document outlining specific multisectoral projects, where energy is a key input.

The key outputs from the GVEP action planning process will be the following:

  • A wide consensus among different sectoral actors on the GVEP action plan;
  • Specific commitment from specific sectoral actors to follow up on the projects identified in the action plan;
  • Strengthen the GVEP multisectoral Committee;
  • Identify potential funding sources for specific multisectoral projects;
  • Identify actions and means to reinforce GVEP-Honduras through the upcoming Government transition;
  • Empowering the key sectoral GVEP partners;
  • Develop the guiding principles in order to form a portfolio of energy related projects with relevant donors.
