Mexico
The GVEP initiative in Mexico is aimed at identifying appropriate institutional schemes at the Federal, State and Municipal levels to promote rural electrification projects based on renewable energy solutions in regions with low electricity coverage.
The first stage of the initiative has focused on the analysis of lessons learnt and the identification of elements of success associated with previous off-grid rural electrification projects in Mexico (i.e. case studies across Mexico). This analysis includes all relevant dimensions: institutional, economic, fiscal, financial, social, environmental and other.
The second stage of the initiative has focused on understanding institutional structures and the roles of key stakeholders to identify appropriate schemes and/or models that allow the efficient development of rural electrification projects based on renewable energy solutions not connected to the grid.
The GVEP works in Mexico have included capacity building and/or training activities. Dissemination will start soon.
