Peru

Peru attended the 2003 GVEP regional workshop in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. A multisectoral group formed by representatives from the Ministries of Energy, Agriculture, Health and Economy, private sector and NGOs attended the workshop and a draft action plan was drawn up and presented.

GVEP is now working with the Peruvian government to set up a coordination platform for development actors in Peru and outline a national energy strategy with the involvement of stakeholders from both the private and public sector as well as civil society and academia. Recognising the value
that this platform could bring to the national planning process, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has been working closely with GVEP International and the MEM (Ministry of Energy and Mines) with a view to supporting the process and subsequently the implementation of projects identified by the MEM-GVEP Platform.

GVEP International will be supporting four regional workshops in Peru in 2008 intended to collect input for the national energy strategy in renewable energies and biofuels and to highlight areas for immediate action.
